The Asha Centre first approached Squirrel Design in the Spring of 2008.  The ambition was to investigate the opportunities to build an eco friendly lodge at the bottom of the glorious – but, at the time underutilized – woodland garden, in the magical Forest of Dean.
The target was always to enhance the offerings available at the centre, and to develop a special, peaceful space that could be used by everyone.  Of course, all parties concerned had to be very aware of the impact any structure would have on the surrounding natural environment and always had the aim in their minds that this would be a place of improvement, discovery and calm.  This had to be a structure built sustainably, with careful forethought and with consideration to a future of carbon friendly building work.

Sarah & David Trotter, co founders of Squirrel Design – who happen to be husband and wife – were invited to visit and discuss the various options and their creative solutions.  They came up with some inspirational ideas and plans, and after a period of consideration, the project was commissioned, put into action and you can now see the results of their hard work in place here at the Asha Centre.

Squirrel Design have given us here, at the Asha Centre, an additional place of sanctuary, that will be used by young and old, individuals and groups, for both private, commercial and educational uses.

You can see some further examples of their other work on their website www.squirreldesign.co.uk
