For young people, being in a play is both a rite of passage and a form of
self-expression. At Tongues of Fire, we help our young actors to grow through the
craft of theatre, challenging them to find ever deeper emotional-artistic resources
inside themselves. Our rehearsal process is deep and thorough. As a result of this, we
have been able to create productions of real beauty and power.
We are particularly proud of Hamlet (2006) and Macbeth (2007), both of which played at
The Space Theatre in Stroud. Audience-members at both productions found the
quality of the acting remarkable. In both case, our lead actors went on to get places at
top drama schools.
In 2009, Tongues of Fire was invited to become the resident youth company of
The Picturedrome Theatre in Gloucester. In June, we will perform Dog in the Manger
by the Spanish playwright Lope de Vega there, with a cast of twenty local teenagers.
We look forward to many other productions at The Picturedrome, including an abridged
Shakespeare as part of the 2010 Shakespeare School’s Festival.
