Today’s timely concern about carbon footprints and the future of our planet has encouraged many to rediscover Britain. The ASHA Centre is situated in one of the most beautiful unspoilt and still relatively undiscovered parts of England, surrounded by nature and yet within easy reach of Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Bristol, Bath and Wales.
Some of Britain’s most breathtaking landscapes are to be found here.
The Royal Forest of Dean has countless inspiring walks. Close to the Centre is St Anthony’s Well, an ancient spring whose name dates from the medieval period. The well was closely connected to the monks of nearby Flaxley Abbey.
Not far The River Wye Valley sweeps majestically past the famous ruins of Tintern Abbey and the dominating Chepstow Castle down to the Severn Estuary. Other nearby areas of interest include Puzzle Wood, the extraordinary, ancient stretch of forest that inspired Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings”, Clearwell Caves, where Doctor Who was filmed, with their remarkable underground mining museum, and Gloucester famous for its cheese and Cathedral, where scenes for the Harry Potter films were made.
