India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from the British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation in 1947. The day is a national holiday in India. It is celebrated through flag-hoisting ceremonies which was recreated in ASHA’s garden.

Doctor  Kusoom Vadgama visited ASHA to give a talk to the girls and at the end presented them each with a copy of her book India in Britain

The Asha Foundation in Gloucestershire (UK) in conjunction with The Lila Poonawalla Foundation (India) have embarked on an ambitious Mission of Peace with thirteen Lila Fellows (Girls who have received Scholarships from the Lila Poonawalla Foundation for their Post Graduate Education).

The Fellows, along with two Project co-ordinators, have been hosted and given a three week intensive Leadership Development training at the ASHA Centre in the Royal Forest of Dean.
